Malaga
I was in Malaga for one month in winter.
- Where to live
- living in old town is amazing in terms of walking and eating, but can be very noisy at night
- torremolinos and este are typical beach tourist town which are completely ghost towns in winter
- What to visit
- Alcazaba & Gibralfaro complex. First is arabic palace, second is fortress. Can be visited in two days.
- Centre Pompidou — modern art museum, temporary exhibition was interesting, main was okayish.
- Santa Iglesia Cathedral
- Not recommended
- Museo Picasso Málaga — long queues, crowded interiors and not very interesting exhibits
- Where to walk
- Paraje natural del Guadalhorce — swamp with birdwatching spots, nice for a long undemanding walk. Sadly it’s hard to reach by foot due to highway, and part of the swamp isn’t available for bikes.
- Walk around hill where Gibralfaro is located — you will see multiple sides of city: old town, beach line, quiet hill villas.
- Start around here and go towards Este. Walk along beach, old tower, caves inside hills. It’s quite a long route, so you can even go on bike.
- Food
- Futtota — one of the best ramens I ever ate.
- Pizzería Terra Mia — pizza restaurant with great calzone.
- Bun and Coffee — self explanatory.
- La Desayuneria — food chain that serves american breakfast whole day.
- One day ride
- I highly recommend you to take a bust to Grenada and visit Alhambra. This was a greatest experiences in my life. Huge arabic fortress and palace complex on top of the hill surrounded by gardens and mountains and overseeing city and far-reaching valley. Tickets must be bought months in advance, but you may have a few minutes to collect tickets that are dropped at site on 00:00.
- Shopping
- El Corte Ingles is great department store
- McArthur Glen — outlet mall
